Why Waterton for LSAT Tutoring in Dallas?

Most Dallas-area LSAT prep courses are offered in classroom-based settings.  This approach is slow and designed to “overview” the material.  The Waterton Group offers a much more aggressive approach.  Our in-home tutoring platform has been proven to yield superior results on the LSAT.  Waterton instructors work on an individual basis with each student so you won’t waste time on familiar material.

LSAT Test Information:

The LSAT is designed to provide a standard measure of reading and verbal reasoning skills that are essential to success in law school. The test itself is a marathon of sorts requiring 175 minutes plus a 30 minute writing sample.
The test consists of five 35-minute sections of multiple-choice questions. Only four of the five sections will contribute to your score. These sections include one reading comprehension section, one analytical reasoning section, and two logical reasoning sections. A fifth section is used to pretest new test items, and is not used to calculate your score, but you will not know which section is the test section. Finally, a 30-minute writing sample is administered at the end of the test. Specifically, the LSAT includes:

  • 2 logical reasoning sections with 24-26 items in which you are asked to analyze statements for errors in logic.
  • 1 analytical reasoning section with 24 items in which you are asked to solve complex deductive reasoning puzzles.
  • 1 reading comprehension section with 26-28 items in which you are asked to read passages and answer questions.
  • 1 experimental section, which can be any of the above (you won't know which section is experimental, so do your best on all).
  • 1 writing sample in which you will have 30 minutes to write an essay on a specified topic. The writing sample is not scored, but it is sent with your application to law schools to demonstrate your writing and thinking skills.

The LSAT is scored on a scale from 120 to 180. While the average score is about 150, top law schools typically accept applicants with scores over 160. Contact law schools that you're interested in to learn about the average score of accepted students.

How and When is the LSAT Administered?

The LSAT is administered four times a year at hundreds of locations around the world. Generally you should take the LSAT by December for admission the following fall, but most students take it early (in June or October). Review the upcoming LSAT test dates to determine when you should take the LSAT, then register for the LSAT online.

Conquer the LSAT Games Section

Students often find the Analytical Reasoning (or “logic games”) section of the LSAT to be the most perplexing. With proper instruction, you can learn how to solve all of these games with great accuracy, and to have fun doing it. Your Waterton Group LSAT tutor will show you how to diagram these logic games precisely and efficiently, and will work with you to help you focus on the information that is relevant to the problems you’ll have to solve.

Here is a sample analytical reasoning question:

LSAT Game Example

In the above example, you could solve the problem by taking each answer choice and checking it against each of the rules given to you, but this would be time-consuming and leave you without much confidence in your answer choice. At the Waterton Group, our LSAT tutors will teach you how to set up helpful diagrams to organize the rules for games like this. You will learn to internalize the rules first, enabling you to cross off the four wrong answers with great confidence, and to circle the correct answer – answer choice (D) in this case – with absolute certainty.

As the premier LSAT prep firm in Dallas, the Waterton Group prides itself on individualized attention. Your LSAT tutor will work with you on analytical reasoning skills in accordance with your individual needs. If logic games are your weakest area, as is the case with many students, your LSAT tutor will craft an individualized curriculum for you to show you how to identify and solve the different types of logic games:

  • Linear/ordering games
  • Stacked linear games
  • In-and-out games
  • Grouping games
  • Matching games
  • Hybrid games

Other test prep companies may show you why the right answer is right, but your Waterton Group LSAT tutor will teach you what you need to know to be certain that the wrong answers are wrong. We’ll make sure you’re firmly grounded in the underlying logical principles so that you can think like the test-makers think. The end result will be greater certainty, increased confidence, better speed, and a higher score.

Master the LSAT Logic Reasoning Section

Two of the four scored sections on the LSAT are “Logical Reasoning” sections – together, these sections account for half of your overall score. Your ability to recognize what the question prompts are asking for, together with your ability to deconstruct the short arguments in each question, will determine how well and how quickly you complete these crucial sections. We focus on teaching you the necessary skills to break apart the questions and to select the correct answer with confidence.

Here is a sample logical reasoning question:

LSAT Logic Reasoning Example

In the above example, your natural inclination might be answer choice (B) on account of the arrangement of the sentences. In fact, the answer is (D), because D exhibits two logical flaws instead of only one. Answer choice (B) may look more similar to the argument given, but answer choice (D) exhibits the same pattern of reasoning. At the Waterton Group, our LSAT tutors will teach you how to identify these patterns of reasoning, and will show you exactly what to look for in all of the logical reasoning questions.

As the premier LSAT prep firm in Dallas, the Waterton Group prides itself on individualized attention. Your LSAT tutor will work with you on the following logical reasoning skills in accordance with your individual needs:

  • Identifying premises and conclusions
  • Necessary and sufficient assumptions
  • Making inferences
  • Recognizing logical flaws (fallacies)
  • Hypothetical arguments
  • Methods of reasoning

Other test prep companies may show you why the right answer is right, but your Waterton Group LSAT tutor will teach you what you need to know to be certain that the wrong answers are wrong. We’ll make sure you’re firmly grounded in the underlying logical principles so that you can think like the test-makers think. The end result will be greater certainty, increased confidence, better speed, and a higher score.

LSAT Reading Comprehension

As the premier LSAT prep firm in Dallas, the Waterton Group prides itself on individualized attention. Your LSAT tutor will show you how to sift through the difficult LSAT reading comprehension passages and focus on only the information relevant to the questions being asked.

Many students find the reading comprehension section difficult because the questions appear subjective; in reality, however, each question has four wrong answers that are just that – wrong. Your LSAT tutor will work with you to develop your ability to read efficiently. Depending on your individual needs, your LSAT tutor will coach you through strategies for highlighting, underlining, making helpful margin notes, and mentally paraphrasing the reading passages prior to answering the questions.

Your LSAT tutor will craft an individualized curriculum for you to show you how to solve the different types of LSAT reading comprehension questions:

  • Main-point
  • Primary purpose
  • Organization of the passage
  • Author’s attitude
  • Likely to agree
  • Detail questions
  • Inferences
  • Assumptions
  • Underlying principles

Other test prep companies may show you why the right answer is right, but your Waterton Group LSAT tutor will teach you what you need to know to be certain that the wrong answers are wrong. We’ll make sure you’re firmly grounded in the underlying logical principles so that you can think like the test-makers think. The end result will be greater certainty, increased confidence, better speed, and a higher score.
